Kraków Bronowice railway stop available for traffic
Since 14 June 2020, passengers can use the newly built and commissioned Kraków Bronowice railway stop. The stop is located at the junction of the railway lines leading to Katowice and the airport in Kraków and is an important interchange for the residents of the Kraków agglomeration. The construction of the stop was carried out by TORPOL S.A. as part of the modernization of the E30 Kraków – Katowice railway line on the Kraków Mydliki – Kraków Główny Towarowy section.
The bus stop features modern architecture and design solutions that make it easy for travellers to change direction and use the facility. The entire facility is fully adapted to the needs of disabled passengers as well as cyclists. The stop consists of four platforms situated in pairs at two different heights, as railway line 118 leading to the airport is situated at a different level than line 133 leading to Katowice. Communication between the platforms is made possible by a system consisting of five staircases equipped with passenger lifts and escalators. Under the railway infrastructure there is a tunnel where service points are located. In the close vicinity of the stop there is a tram terminus and bus stops, and in the future a parking lot in the Park and Ride system is to be built. Additionally, bicycle paths, also made under this contract, lead to the bus stop.
For the purpose of the investment, over 21 thousand cubic meters of excavations were made, almost 600 tons of reinforcing steel were installed and over 6 thousand cubic meters of concrete was used. The construction of the facility required the construction of two retaining walls in the immediate vicinity of the walkway, for which 22 thousand tons of reinforcement and 2 thousand m3 of excavations and almost 600 m3 of concrete was used.
The Kraków Bronowice railway stop is an element of the contract executed by TORPOL S.A. concerning the performance of construction works on the Kraków Mydlniki – Kraków Główny Towarowy section under the task “Modernisation of the E30 railway line, stage II, section Zabrze – Katowice – Kraków”. The scope of works under the entire contract provides, among others, for the reconstruction of the track system with a length of over 20 km, including the catenary network and the construction of 38 crossings, the reconstruction of 6 viaducts and the construction of 2 underground passages. The net cost of the investment project amounts to PLN 247.4 million and is co-financed from the funds from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
