Ceremonial handing over of the Independence Booth to the Wielkopolska Museum of Independence

On Wednesday, 15 May 2019, at the Old Market Square in Poznań at Odwach, a handover of the Independence Booth to the Wielkopolska Museum of Independence took place. Originally, the Booth was located at the building of the Wielkopolska Voivodship Office, where the inhabitants of Poznań and tourists could use the unique form of getting acquainted with the history of Poland’s regaining independence as well as the outbreak of the Greater Poland Uprising for over six months. The Independence booth is a specially revitalized and rearranged telephone booth, inside of which there is a phone that you cannot make phone-calls with – but rather you can listen to the history of regaining independence by Poland played via the handset. The participants of those events – Józef Piłsudski, Ignacy Paderewski, Roman Dmowski, Wincenty Witos, Ignacy Daszyński, Jędrzej Moraczewski, Józef Haller and Stanisław Taczak – will tell this extraordinary story. Each of the characters will describe the events and anecdotes from that period, and on the walls of the booth one will be able to see photos and graphics depicting the Greater Poland Uprising.

The installation by Mr. Maciej Hanusek is a joint project of the Wielkopolska Voivodship Office and TORPOL S.A. realized in connection with the 100th anniversary of regaining independence and the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the Greater Poland Uprising.
