Electrification of the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway completed
The contract for the realisation of the electrification of the PKM line included the execution by TORPOL S.A. of the full electrification of lines 248 and 253, together with their integration into railway lines 201 and 202, the construction of a new Gdańsk Firoga stop and the extension of the existing technical and telematic infrastructure of the PKM. As part of the construction work, more than 1,100 pile foundations were boarded, 900 catenary posts and 120 catenary gates were installed, with 40 km of catenary cables and 80 km of contact wires stretched between them. The entire works were planned in such a way as not to restrict the capacity of the railway line, and all works requiring the closure of both tracks at the same time were carried out during night downtimes. Construction work began on 15 June 2021, and the first tests of the line were successfully carried out between 8 and 9 November 2022.
